The grant comes from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s Kentucky Student Success Collaborative and will help the college remove barriers to success for students who are also parents.
The $2 million S-STEM grant will fund enhancements for the Mathematics and Science Scholar Excellence (MSSE) Program at Somerset Community College.
The grant will go toward furniture and equipment for the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Training Complex on the college’s Laurel Campus.
The grants will benefit the university’s nursing and imaging sciences students through financial support and job placement opportunities, with UK St. Claire HealthCare providing funding that is being matched via the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund.
The grant comes via the Council on Postsecondary Education and will give the college financial support to make improvements and enhancements that will give parent students better opportunities for success.
The partnership will begin in the Spring 2026 semester, with students who complete an eligible associate degree from Elizabethtown Community and Technical College becoming able to study in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville.
The university and KCTCS have expanded their existing partnership to bring their transfer agreements to every community college within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
The gift will allow the college to develop a new program that will prepare students to work as direct support professionals.
The $12,000 scholarship grant comes from the Gene Haas Foundation.
