Morehead State University receives grants from UK St. Claire HealthCare and Council for Postsecondary Education’s Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund

The grants will benefit the university’s nursing and imaging sciences students through financial support and job placement opportunities, with UK St. Claire HealthCare providing funding that is being matched via the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund.

Morehead State University is receiving grant funding from UK St. Claire HealthCare that is being matched by the Council for Postsecondary Education’s Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund. The funding will affect three programs: Associate in Applied Sciences in Radiologic Science, Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science, and Associate in Applied Sciences in Nursing.

According to an article on Morehead State University’s website, Kayla Harrison, who is a talent manager for UK St. Claire and a two-time graduate of Morehead State University, noted that the grant proposal was originally aimed at nursing and radiology technology, as those positions are always in need of additional qualified professionals. Harrison is quoted as saying, "St. Claire itself is growing... we're expanding some of the services that we offer here. So, that has made us have a need to grow our workforce a little bit. It basically guarantees them a position once they graduate."

UK St. Claire provided the following dollar amounts for scholarship funding: $135,160 for the Associate in Applied Sciences in Radiologic Science program, $150,000 for the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science program, and $57,950 for the Associate in Applied Sciences in Nursing program. These amounts were all matched via the CPE's Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, bringing the total grant funding for each program to $270,320, $300,000, and $115,900, respectively.

Two students from each program will receive scholarships from this funding, so long as they sign an agreement stating that they will work for UK St. Claire for two years upon their graduation.

Jeff Fannin, who serves as the imaging sciences program coordinator, noted that this grant funding is providing tuition money for students who may not otherwise have had the ability to pursue a college education and enter into these career paths. He said, "We're giving back to communities that need to be served... It's encouraging. We're doing so much with these grants for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and for the students of Morehead State University."
