Sinclair Community College launches Sinclair Direct initiative

The Sinclair Direct initiative will make a college education more accessible through a high school partnership and direct-admission initiative.

Sinclair Community College has launched a new initiative to make a college education more accessible through direct admission and high school partnership, including the Sinclair Direct Promise. Sinclair Direct will create a coordinated pathway from high school to Sinclair College for eight high schools as part of the launch.

According to an article on Sinclair Community College’s website, Dr. Steven Johnson, college President & CEO, was quoted as saying of the new initiative, “Together with our K-12 and community partners, we are reaching students earlier, removing barriers, and helping more young people prepare for the careers our regional employers need to fill.”

Sinclair Direct will make a college education more attainable for more individuals, and will also prepare more people to enter into in-demand and well-paying careers. The initiative has been made possible in partnership with the Montgomery County Educational Service Center as the regional convening partner, and will provide the eight partner high schools with coordinated pathways to Sinclair Community College.

The participating high schools and districts are Dayton Public Schools, Dixie High School, Jefferson Township Jr./Sr. High School, Northridge High School, Stebbins High School, Trotwood-Madison High School, Valley View High School, and West Carrollton High School.

Eligible 2027 high school seniors will receive guaranteed admission, personalized enrollment assistance, financial aid guidance, career exploration, and transition support through the Sinclair DIrect initiative. The goal of the initiative is to simplify the admission process, make school more affordable, and support students as they transition from high school to college.

Scott Markland, the Senior Vice President at Sinclair College, said, "Sinclair Direct goes beyond the traditional admissions process. By connecting our schools, students, and families with Sinclair's resources, we're helping students see college as an achievable and affordable next step."

Part of the Sinclair Direct initiative is the Sinclair Direct Promise, which is a last-dollar scholarship that will provide eligible students with the remainder of their tuition after all other grants and scholarships have been applied.

Marquez Young, Director of Admissions, said, "We're not waiting for students to find their way to college. We're working with our partners to build a regional system that helps more students get there, succeed, and prepare for their futures while strengthening the talent pipeline for our employers."
