Stark State College has partnered with KeyBank and the KeyBank Foundation to help students pay for their education. KeyBank has invested $200,000 in Stark State College to establish KeyBank Presidential Scholarships, which will provide 40 students with $1,000 scholarships annually for four years.
According to an article on Stark State College’s website, Para M. Jones, Ph.D., who serves as the Stark State College President, was quoted as saying of the investment, “KeyBank has long been a valued partner of our college and its students. This grant is a strategic investment that will empower students from all backgrounds to discover rewarding career paths, helping build a stronger future for them and a more skilled workforce for our region.”
Mattie Jones Hollowell, the KeyBank Corporate Responsibility Officer, said, “Stark State College and KeyBank share a fundamental belief that when individuals succeed, communities thrive. Through the KeyBank Presidential Scholarship Program, we are helping remove financial barriers that can stand in the way of a student achieving their goals. We are proud to partner with Stark State College and the Stark State College Foundation to have a lasting impact on students, local employers and Northeast Ohio as a whole.”
Over the four year grant period, the funding will provide scholarships for up to 160 students. In order to be eligible for the scholarships, students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0. Students who earn the scholarship will have their academic progress tracked to monitor the effect of the program on the student’s retention, completion, transfer, and employment.
The scholarships are intended to be used for tuition, fees, books, transportation, and other various costs associated with attending college to ensure that students are able to complete their education without a cost barrier.
