Austin Peay State University receives grant from Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation

Austin Peay State University has received a $106,481 grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation. The funding will support health and wellness initiatives and programs both on campus and in the surrounding community, with the funding running through February 2027.

According to an article on Austin Peay State University’s website, Kris Phillips, who serves as the university’s vice president for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy, was quoted as saying of the funding, "The Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation has been a transformative partner for Austin Peay, consistently investing in programs that strengthen our healthcare workforce and improve community health outcomes. These grants demonstrate CMCCHF's deep understanding that addressing our region's health challenges requires a comprehensive approach – from preventing violence and training healthcare professionals to ensuring health literacy reaches our most vulnerable populations. Their continued support allows us to expand our impact and fulfill our mission of serving this community."

The grant funding will support the APSU Sexual Assault Prevention Program, the APSU Student Nurse for a Day and Nurse Intensives Camps, and Health Literacy in Rural Childhood Education.

The APSU Sexual Assault Prevention Program includes peer advocate training, campus climate research, awareness campaigns, and sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) certification programs.

The APSU Student Nurse for a Day and Nurse Intensives Camps are simulation programs to help introduce middle and high school students to nursing careers with hands-on experiences on the university’s campus.

Health Literacy in Rural Childhood Education initiatives include the School of Nursing’s efforts to improve health literacy among children in rural communities.

Rosalind Kurita, who serves as the executive director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation, said, "These grants reflect our commitment to improving health at every stage—from prevention and education to increasing the number of healthcare providers. Austin Peay continues to be a partner in advancing our mission. Whether it's creating safer campuses, inspiring the next generation of nurses, or bringing health education to rural children, these programs will improve the well-being of our communities."

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation has provided $27 million in grants since 2009 to nonprofit organizations working to improve the general health and wellness of the residents of Clarksville, Montgomery County, Robertson, Cheatham, Dickson, Houston, and Stewart counties, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
