The partnership aims to broaden access to veterinary care through a three-day Fix the Future® spay and neuter event.
Baker College and the BISSELL Pet Foundation have partnered to expand access to veterinary care through a three-day Fix the Future® spay and neuter event. The event takes place from July 18 through July 20 on the college’s Cadillac, Michigan, campus, and will provide spay and neuter services to approximately 500 shelter animals through the collaboration of veterinary professionals, faculty, staff, and students.
According to an article on Baker College’s website, Anya Petersen, who serves as the college’s Veterinary Technology Program Director, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Our partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation reflects the heart of our Veterinary Technology program by combining high quality compassionate care with hands-on learning experiences to prepare students for meaningful careers. This event gives our students the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinary professionals while making a tangible difference for animal shelters and the communities they serve. We’re proud to help improve animal welfare while preparing the next generation of veterinary professionals.”
While the event is not open to the public, it will provide communities with veterinary service by spaying and neutering animal shelter cats and feral cats in the community. This will help control the population of cats who do not have owners and provide them with necessary veterinary services.
The event is made possible through supply contributions from BISSELL Pet Foundation, Idexx Laboratories, and Midwest Veterinary Supply. Students and faculty from the college’s Veterinary Technology programs will collaborate with experienced veterinary professionals to provide spay and neuter services, providing students with hands-on clinical experience.
The Fix the Future® initiative of the BISSELL Pet Foundation is a larger effort to increase spay and neuter rates by connecting veterinarians with community organizations that will host events and provide medical supplies and handle event logistics, opening up affordable spay and neuter opportunities to pet owners and animal shelters all over the country.
