Washtenaw Community College partners with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

The partnership will create an articulation agreement that will assist electrical workers in completing college degrees.

Washtenaw Community College and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) announced on May 21, 2026 a new articulation agreement that will assist electrical workers in completing college degrees. Included in the articulation agreement are the Associate of Applied Science in Construction Supervision, Associate of Science in Construction Supervision, or Associate of Applied Science in Journeyman Industrial degrees.

According to an article on Washtenaw Community College’s website, college president Dr. Rose B. Bellanca was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Washtenaw Community College is proud to partner with the IBEW to create flexible, meaningful educational pathways for working professionals. This agreement recognizes the tremendous value of the skills and experience these electrical workers already possess while helping them build additional credentials that can support lifelong career growth. Together, we are helping meet the workforce demands of Michigan and the nation.”

The agreement will give individuals who are part of the IBEW the ability to earn degrees in a flexible manner while continuing to work in the field. Newly developed online courses and credit for prior apprenticeship training and professional experience will combine to give IBEW members the ability to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Supervision, Associate of Science in Construction Supervision, or Associate of Applied Science in Journeyman Industrial degree.

The announcement comes from IBEW Local 252, the Michigan Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and the Ann Arbor Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center (AAEJATC).

Chris Parks, the Training Director at the AAEJATC, said, “This partnership with Washtenaw Community College creates exciting opportunities for our members to continue their education while building successful careers in the electrical industry. Our members already receive world-class technical training through our apprenticeship programs and continuing education classes, and this agreement allows that experience to translate directly into college degrees that can open even more doors professionally and personally.”
