Bradley Morris Rutherford Memorial Scholarship Endowment established at Morehead State University

The new scholarship will benefit students who are in the Pre-Licensure, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

The Bradley Morris Rutherford Memorial Scholarship Endowment has been established at Morehead State University to give students who wish to become nurses financial support as they pursue their degree. The scholarship was established via a gift from Bradley Morris Rutherford’s brother, Bruce D. Rutherford, who graduated from Morehead State University in 1971.

According to an article on Morehead State University’s website, the Bradley Morris Rutherford Memorial Scholarship Endowment will be awarded to full-time students who have been accepted into the Pre-Licensure, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The scholarship was established by Bradley’s brother, Bruce, in memory of Bradley’s legacy as a registered nurse in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant.

Bradley enrolled at Morehead State University and completed one year of classes that allowed him to enter into the university’s affiliated Nursing Program at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he earned his diploma and became a registered nurse. Throughout his career in the Army, Bradley served in the 121st Evac Hospital in Seoul, South Korea and the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then entered into civilian life until he died in 1992 at 47 years old.

Bruce Rutherford, himself a retired Captain in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Navy, as well as a Morehead State University alumnus, has been a longtime supporter of the MSU Foundation and higher education in general. This memorial endowment in Bradley’s name is the third endowment Bruce has established at Morehead State University.
