Youngstown State University has acquired the site of the former Eastern Gateway Community College and will begin offering courses there, as its new Steubenville campus, in the Fall 2026 semester. The initial offerings will include certificates and associate degrees, with programming focused on creating opportunities that align with the region’s workforce demands.
According to an article on Youngstown State University’s website, university president Bill Johnson is quoted as saying, “This is an important first step in standing up a meaningful and sustainable YSU presence in Steubenville. Our goal is not simply to offer classes, but to build opportunity, creating clear academic and career pathways that meet students where they are and preparing them for where they want to go. We are committed to delivering a full continuum of opportunities that strengthens the workforce and supports economic growth across the region.”
Beginning in Fall 2026, the following programs will be offered at the new Steubenville campus: Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice, Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Associate Pre-Kindergarten, Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology, Associate of Applied Science in Machining, Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ADN), Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology, Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy, Associate of Applied Science in Social Work, Associate of Applied Science in Welding, Associate of Arts in Business Administration, Associate of Arts in CLASS, Associate of Arts in Teacher Education, Associate of Individualized Studies, Certificate in Police Academy, Certificate in Welding, Certificate in Machining, and Certificate in Medical Assisting.
The programs have been chosen based on regional workforce demand, as well as the ability to provide a variety of education options for recent high school graduates, adult learners, and working individuals who would like to upskill or reskill. The associate degree programs often feed into bachelor degree programs the university offers, allowing for further advancement.
Provost Jennifer Adams said, “These programs are rooted in demonstrated workforce demand and designed with career readiness at the forefront. From healthcare and skilled trades to education and public service, each degree and certificate prepares students with the practical skills and credentials needed to enter the workforce quickly or continue seamlessly into advanced study. We are building pathways that connect education directly to opportunity.”
